It all comes down to deciding ahead of time what you can or cannot do. You can decide that you don’t want to watch out for your diet while on vacation. That decision is only yours to make. After all, it’s your vacation, it’s your diet. You may decide that you may slow your progress down, even regain a couple of pounds, but it is worth it for you.

But if you decide to keep to your diet, that you’re on roll, here are a couple of pointers to keep in mind to help you stay on course. Just remember that it is your decision, your state of mind on how you want to handle your diet. Before starting out, do the following 7 steps:

* Think of the end result. Picture yourself & how much better life will be for you once you make your goal.

* Draw up a list of 6 things that you have been successively doing to stay on your diet. Which of these things can you adapt for your vacation? Use them while your vacationing.

* Don’t aim for perfection. Think about having a couple of meals that you can eat without worrying about how it affects your diet. This will help you feel that you are not being deprived. Just remember to determine the number of meals ahead of time and stick to the plan.

* Bring along any helpful items with you. Anything that you find helpful in reaching your daily progress, It could be anything at all, such as your journal, cassette tapes of CD’s that may motivate you, books or articles that provide the same. They help you at home, and they can also help you while you’re away on vacation.

* Make the best of the situation. Sometimes you have no choice. But if you already have the desire to stick to the plan. you can always approximate your regular meals. For example, estimate the portion size you would typically have, or the amount of fat served in a dish.

* Maintain your exercise routine. If you have normally done some exercises as part of your dieting plan, try to find a place and time where you can continue with your exercise routine. Now you probably won’t find any free weights available, but you can most likely find a place to walk or jog. And you certainly can do your push ups, sit ups, leg raises and squats. Even the minimum can make the experience a pleasant one.

* Ask for help. If you are traveling with your spouse, partner, friend, or any significant other, tell that person what you plan to do and how important it is to you. Enlisting the support of someone who cares about you is a big plus in maintaining a diet while on vacation.

So enjoy your vacation time. And return with a greater enthusiasm to follow your diet than before you left.
