4. Notre Dame Cathedral (Cathedrale de Notre Dame de Paris)

This church is dedicated to Mother Mary.
Parisians first began constructing the Notre Dame de Paris in 1163 and took two centuries to be completed, officially 1345. Of course it did not stop there and throughout the subsequent centuries various alternations and reconstructions have been made to suit contemporary ideology and wisdom. Today, its French Gothic architecture is one of its main features. And, amongst other things, it’s famed for its usage of arched exterior supports and its outstanding organs.
Personally, I love all the detailed carving around each of the entrances. It reminds us that in the olden days, people could not read. The carvings tell moral and biblical stories so that the Catholic tradition can be carried forward and remind the masses going to church to be good citizens.
